Home: how do I clean my carpet periodically?

Advice clean home vacuum carpet

Caring for your carpet properly means alternating between an all-over clean and localised action on a regular basis.

Carpet cleaning, a weekly task

Taking good care of the carpet in your lounge or bedroom means cleaning it regularly. A thorough cleaning session is not required every time, but it is important to vacuum up any impurities once or twice a week to keep things neat. For most carpets, a brush vacuum is enough. For looped woollen carpets, a flat-nozzled vacuum is better. Lastly, to ensure even more efficient cleaning, we suggest purchasing electric brushes that can be fitted onto your nozzle ends.

Localised action: the use of absorbent powder

Did you lay carpet in your entrance hall or corridor? These are high-traffic areas, and where a lot of people walk there's a lot of dirt! However, this should not be an obstacle when choosing your flooring as cleaning becomes child's play when it comes to absorbent powder! This process is useful when cleaning areas that tend to dirty quickly. Here is a step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Sprinkle the powder on by hand.
Step 2: Using an appropriate machine (or brush), allow the powder to soak into the pile, then leave it on as per the instructions.
Step 3: Vacuum over the area several times to remove any traces of powder. The brush's rigidity  must also be adapted to the type of pile so as not to damage it.
Please note: This technique is not at all suitable for dark, needle-woven, long-piled or looped carpets. Avoid using it on woollen carpets or carpet tiles.
