Context:
- A project designed by Jean Nouvel,
- The "Les Ombres" restaurant, located at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, covers around 300 m²,
- Both inside and out, this contemporary setting is a sublime example of elegant Paris design,
- The asymmetrical space with its panoramic windows and fish-scale tiling evokes a turtle shell set on top of the gigantic cube of the Quai Branly Museum,
- The graduated shadow of a detail from the Eiffel Tower on all the restaurant's ornamental items (floor, ceiling, tablecloths, crockery) is a reminder of the sun's path,
- The ubiquitous shadow of the Eiffel Tower bears homage by the architect to Eiffel the engineer, whose masterpiece has become the universal symbol for Paris.
Balsan recommend’s:
- Single graphic image of the metallic structure printed onto the carpet,
- Creation of this special design based on sketches provided by the architect,
- Pattern matched over a large area (4m x 3m) giving an impression of increased space for groups of tables,
- Amber hues have been used for the darker areas of the floor: terracotta and brown, giving warmth to this cold, industrial, metallic universe,
- Produced on crimped polyamide carpeting, thereby giving a subtle look of refinement to the whole,
- The use of carpeting enables us to achieve pleasant acoustics which absorb the high level of noise generated in a restaurant.
